What is an Official Veterinarian or OV?
An Official Veterinarian is more commonly known and often referred to as an OV, Official Vet or in the world of exporting POAO may also be known as an Export OV or an Export Official Vet.
Official Veterinarian is the term used to describe vets who perform work on behalf of the government or state.
The work performed by an OV is normally of statutory nature meaning it is required by law.
All OVs in the United Kingdom must be qualified vets and registered by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
An OV needs to pass additional qualifications specific to the nature of the role.
All Export OVs for POAO need to attain the qualification OCQ(V) PX which means the Official Controls Qualification (Veterinary) for Product Exports.
If you are looking to export any POAO you will need your goods certified by an Official Veterinarian to enable correct compliance with the importing countries regulations and to ensure an Export Health Certificate accompanies the consignment.
